Gaffer tape (also known as gaffer tape, gaffa tape, or simply gaffa) is a strong cloth-backed tape with excellent adhesive and mechanical properties. It is widely used in theater, photography, film, radio, and television production, as well as in industrial staging work.
Although it is sometimes confused with ordinary duct tape, gaffer tape differs in composition, both in its fabric backing—as opposed to vinyl or other plastics—and in its adhesive, which is more heat-resistant and easier to remove without damaging the surface to which it was applied.
